70 Years of House & Garden
The team at Studio Kate worked with 6 other interior designers and stylists to bring the last 70 years to life in this issue of House & Garden.
To celebrate Australian House & Garden's 70th birthday, seven of Australia's leading designers were invited to devise a room inspired by a favourite style era.The creative masterminds – Megan Morton, Scott Weston, Sibella Court, Anna Spiro, Mardi Doherty, David Flack and H&G interior editor Kate Nixon - jumped right into character, taking a the spin through the decades to recreate the most iconic looks from the 1940s to now, each with a modern twist.
“ There's an elegance and calmness gleaned from the best of decades past, assisted by modern technology. ”
Talking with Kate Nixon on current trends:
H&G: What do you love about interiors right now? KN: I love the flexibility and refinement of today's interiors, springing from minimalist apartment-living solutions. This is overlaid with the need for balance in our busy lives; increased global awareness reinforces the notion of our home as our sanctuary and the need to personalise it.
H&G: Which one element from your room would you include in your home? KN: The dried palm-frond wall sculpture from Sean Cook. So beautiful! Contemporary interiors need the balance that natural, tactile elements bring.
